Arizona Walk to Emmaus Board of Directors

Thank you for your interest in the current Board openings. Below are the currently open (and NEEDED) Board positions.

The Arizona Walk to Emmaus Board of Directors generally meet monthly via Zoom allowing Board members to be located throughout the state.  Special meetings may be held as needed.  All members of the Board of Directors shall be participants in good standing of the Arizona Walk to Emmaus Community and members in good standing of a local church. 

Board Positions

Emmaus Community Spiritual Director

Emmaus Community Spiritual Director. There shall be one Arizona Walk to Emmaus Community Spiritual Director. The Community Spiritual Director shall be: a) a member in good standing of the Arizona Walk to Emmaus, b) an ordained United Methodist elder in good standing or the equivalent if not United Methodist, and c) shall meet the other requirements set forth in the By-Laws. In addition to the general responsibility for the Arizona Walk to Emmaus movement, shared with the other members of the Board of Directors, it shall be the specific responsibility of the  Community Spiritual Director to provide for the apostolic formation of the leaders and to advise the Movement in spiritual matters, including acting as Community Spiritual Director of each Board of Directors Committee. The Arizona Walk to Emmaus Community Spiritual Director will provide to the Lay Director of each Walk names to discern, with the advice and consent of the Board of Directors, for Spiritual Directors for each Three Day Weekend.


Community Lay Director

Community Lay Director.  The Community Lay Director shall preside at all meetings of the Board of Directors and the Corporation and act as operating and directing head of the Corporation, subject to policies established by the Board of Directors. The Community Lay Director should do everything possible to promote a spirit of unity, not only among the members of the Board of Directors, but throughout the whole Arizona Walk to Emmaus movement. The Community Lay Director will, by virtue of the office, be a member of all committees of the Arizona Walk to Emmaus movement with both a voice and a vote but shall not count in the establishment of a quorum of the committees. In case of the Community Lay Director’s permanent absence or inability to act, the office of Community Lay Director shall be declared vacant by the Board of Directors and a successor chosen by the Board of Directors. A nominee for the position of Community Lay Director must be a current member of the Board of  Directors or have served on the Board of Directors for at least one year. (2 year term)


Community Lay Director Elect

Community Lay Director Elect. The Community Lay Director Elect shall have all the powers and  perform all the duties of the Community Lay Director in the case of the Community Lay Director’s  temporary absence or inability to act. The Community Lay Director Elect by virtue of the office, shall  be a member of all committees of the Corporation with both a voice and a vote. The Community Lay  Director Elect shall have other duties as may be delegated by the Board of Directors. (2 year term)


Secretary

Secretary. The Secretary shall see that the minutes of all meetings of the Board of Directors, the  Corporation, and of any committee of the Board of Directors are kept. The Secretary shall give or  cause to be given required notices of all meetings of the Board of Directors or as required by these By Laws. The Secretary shall have charge of all books of the Corporation except books of account and in  general shall perform all the duties incidental to the office of Secretary as may be assigned by the  Board of Directors. (3 year term)

Treasurer. The Treasurer shall have general custody of the funds and securities of the Corporation except such as may be required by law to be deposited with any state official. The Treasurer shall see to the deposit of the funds of the Corporation in such bank or banks as the Board  of Directors may designate. Regular books of account shall be kept under the direction and  supervision of the Treasurer. The Treasurer shall render financial statements to the Community Lay Director and the Board of Directors at proper times. The Treasurer shall have charge of the preparation and filing of such reports and financial statements and returns as may be required by law.  The Treasurer shall give to the Corporation such fidelity bonds as may be required, and the premium therefore shall be paid by the Corporation as an operating expense. The treasurer shall not be related to another current Board Member of the Arizona Walk to Emmaus. (3 year term)

Pre-Emmaus. Pre-Emmaus works with all churches and proposes to the Board of Directors a plan for establishing and extending the Arizona Walk to Emmaus movement within the State of Arizona. Pre-Emmaus assists all leaders in implementing the Pre-Emmaus phase of the  movement in accord with the available Emmaus literature; conducts educational programs for potential pilgrims. (3 year term)

4th Day. Fourth Day plans and conducts 4th day dinner, is the contact for Group Reunions, conducts leadership training, quarterly workshops, and is ultimately responsible for the 4th Day packets, given out on Three Day Weekends. (3 year term)

Agape. The Agape Position organizes agape, encourages agape to be written and  performed by individuals and Group Reunions. This position also communicates with its counterparts in other Emmaus communities to both send Agape to other communities for their Three Day Weekends and receive Agape from other communities for Arizona three-day weekends. (3 year term)

Communications. Communications is responsible for editing, producing, and distributing  the Arizona Walk to Emmaus Rooster Tales, contributing articles to Conference and District newsletters, maintaining mailing lists, the database, and the archives of the Arizona Walk to  Emmaus. (3 year term)

Gathering –The Gathering position is responsible for organizing regular gatherings. This  includes selecting the sponsor and arranging for the location, music, child care, refreshments, and merchandise table. Gathering also assists the sponsor in planning the program and supplies the communion elements. This position, after the event, cleans up the host facility. (3 year term)

Three-Day – The primary function of Three-Day is to make physical arrangements for Three  Day Weekends including, but not limited to, establishing host facilities, dates for same, after receiving guidance from the Board of Directors, providing all supplies for weekends, making  sure sites are ready for weekends, providing storage for materials needed for weekends and  supporting teams during their formation and on weekends. (3 year term)

Music –Music is responsible for providing a discernment list of musicians for weekends; provide music or arrange musicians for all Gatherings, Candlelight, and Closings; monitor use  of songbooks and maintain inventory of equipment needs; provide instruction and/or training for music leaders; and update any applicable license agreements. (3 year term)

Registrar – The Registrar processes applications, sends invitations to Pilgrims, notifies  sponsors of responsibilities, inputs information into computer and brings concerns and possible exceptions to the BOD. The Registrar sends Pilgrim lists to Communications, notifies the Treasurer of Pilgrim numbers and tells the Three-Day position chairperson numbers of special  needs of Pilgrims. The Registrar provides labels, lists and name tags for each weekend and is  responsible for registration on Thursday of the Three Day Weekends.  (3 year term)

Northern and Southern Arizona Representatives – Northern and Southern Arizona Representatives set up positions corresponding to the standing positions of the Board of  Directors such as Gathering, 3-Day, 4th Day etc. The representatives encourage growth of members and participation in sponsoring pilgrims, reunion groups, attending gatherings and  serving on teams. The representatives also recruit church representatives from local churches and maintain communications with members of the Arizona Walk to Emmaus Community in the region. The representatives are responsible for securing the location and dates for the Three Day Weekends held in the region.  (3 year term)

Chrysalis – The Chairperson of Chrysalis or his/her designee is a voting member of the Arizona Walk to Emmaus Board of Directors. The  Chrysalis Position develops operating procedures for Chrysalis as primary outreach tool of Arizona Walk to Emmaus to develop, challenge, inspire and equip Christian youth for Christian action in their home churches, schools, and committees; and has general oversight in all matters pertaining to the Chrysalis events. (3 year term)
